End of Part 1
So it seems that for now we've reached the end of my little hiking holiday. But it would be a mistake to conclude that my quest to learn to love Scotland is over. In fact it's only just beginning. I've explored the West Highlands and the Isle of Skye but I've barely scratched the surface of this wonderful country, yes you heard me right I said wonderful. Now that I'm armed with a more positive outlook on the place of my upbringing I'm in no mood to quit, there are still many unexplored castles, unclimbed 'Bens' (unclimbed by me I mean obviously!) and many lochs and glens to explore. Perhaps I'll take my bike with me next time. There is also Edinburgh, a beautiful city but not I place I've ever actually explored much as a tourist. Perhaps I'll check out the castle, the parliament house, there is much to do here.
I will admit though, the West Highland Way was fun but nowhere near as fun as my mountaineering expeditions. I love climbing mountains much more than walking in between them. If you're considering doing the WHW then keep this in mind. It is a scenic walk but for the best views in Scotland you need to gain some height! But as you've seen this is all perfectly possible to do from many places along or near the walk so that's all fine! At any rate I've finally found a reason to really love Scotland. And now that I'm in a more positive state of mind I'm beginning to see other good things and forgive its flaws.
Aah yes, I'm really starting to fall for Scotland. And it's about damn time too!
