Day two in Queenstown in nearing it's end and looking out the window earlier it really didn't look like the rain was going to abate anytime soon. The weather forecast, however, tells a different story. Apparently the residents and holidaymakers of Queenstown have been promised clear skies for the next week so it seems that those grey skies are going to clear up.
Despite the bad weather though, I was determined not to let it keep me from venturing outdoors. I wandered around town looking at the various shops, specifically I was interested in the ones selling hiking and backpacking supplies. After buying some supplies at the local supermarket I ventured up to the cablecar station that I had visited yesterday. Since I had already purchased a season pass for the ride I didn't have to pay anything so I reached the top and decided to partake in the only fun activity that the bad weather had not been able to scupper for the day: the Skyline luge.
For those of you who don't know, the luge is basically a small wheeled sledge that runs on a concrete track. The skyline luge is positioned in a spectacular location overlooking Queenstown and provides a beautiful panoramic view to admire as you're rushing down at your own pace. One advantage of the weather being so bad was that few people were on the track so I wouldn't have to worry about having to slow down to avoid any more cautiously minded drivers.
Though the luge ride may not be as fun as throwing oneself out of an airplane or jumping off a skyscraper it nevertheless managed to partially satisfy my appetite for adventure that day. After all it really is jolly fun and I'm certain that I'll be back up there again when the weather is not quite as inclement as it was today.
Tomorrow I'm going bungy jumping, not once ,not twice but thrice. Yes that's right, I couldn't make up my mind which one I wanted to do so I booked all three! Assuming I survive I'll put some photos up. If I do not survive then I formally request a viking burial along with my musical instruments.
